As part of a year long series on world religions and cultures, Dr. Michael Lees, will present about the Buddhist practice of compassion.
According to venerable Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, individuals practice mindfulness if they learn to see themselves as a part of the objects that they are in contact with. Hanh uses the term “inter-be” to describe an individual’s awareness of their connection to materialistic objects that are linked to spirituality. For Hanh, to inter-be means to recognize the essence of materialistic objects by thinking beyond the materialistic elements of the objects. Furthermore, people learn to inter-be with materialistic objects by realizing that they co-exist with the elements of the earth. With Hanh's teachings in mind, this presentation will examine mind mindfulness within the Fine Arts and beyond.
