Have you ever treasured the escape of a comic book? Found comfort in a poem, self-help book, or simply from reading the newspaper? Historian Mary Mahoney will give a talk on bibliotherapy, or the use of books as medicine.
Mary Mahoney is a historian, writer, and podcaster who studies American culture. She earned her Ph.D. in History at the University of Connecticut and is currently writing a history of bibliotherapy in America. When not studying the healing uses of books, she is also the co-host of the "Dolls of our Lives" Podcast, a show that explores the world of American Girl for what it can tell us about American history and culture. In fall of 2023, she will publish "Dolls of our Lives", an exploration of American Girl and its impact on generations of fans.
