SCLSNJ
Mindful creative arts workshops.
Libraries are open-minded environments that actively encourage and assist with exploration and learning. Art is something that becomes easily overlooked in a technology and science-driven world. Art Lab expands access to the arts and reminds people of the joy that creative endeavors can bring. Skills-based arts learning, in a socially supportive environment, yields multiple benefits for adult learners... the arts are good for you!
A different visual arts technique will be explored at each Art Lab session; be sure to register for each date in which you would like to participate. Also, creating art can be messy, so please keep that in mind when choosing the clothing you will wear to the program.
September 14: Conceptual Art - Inspired by postmodern artist Sol LeWitt's collaborative "Wall Drawings." LeWitt postulated, "Each person draws a line differently and each person understands words differently.” We all bring our unique strengths, talents, experiences, and viewpoints to art and life, the sum of which no one else can replicate.
October 12: Collograph Printmaking - Usually reserved for children, pre-cut adhesive foam is elevated to a fine printmaking technique for adults. Adults have the same creative energy as children; they just need to be given the opportunity to tap into it.
November 16: Kintsugi Eggshells - Inspired by Japanese "golden joining" method of repairing porcelain, the art of Kintsugi reminds us that broken, worn, and imperfect things (especially people) are not worthless, but lovely in unique ways.
