Our film discussion series continues with the acclaimed 2018 indie about a teenage girl trying to survive middle school. Attendees must watch the film beforehand; there will be no library screening.

In this acclaimed American indie from writer-director Bo Burnham, thirteen-year-old Kayla (a remarkable performance from newcomer Elsie Fisher) endures the tidal wave of contemporary suburban adolescence as she makes her way through the last week of middle school – the end of her thus far disastrous eighth grade year – before moving on to high school. Classified as "a masterpiece" by The London Evening StandardEighth Grade earned a whopping 99% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Runtime: 1h 33m. Rated R.

"Eighth Grade is a flat-out triumph...an impossible to forget gift from the cinema gods." – Rolling Stone

"It's heartbreaking, heartwarming, and a total charmer." – Entertainment Weekly

"Poignantly funny, wrenchingly wise and meltingly beautiful, Eighth Grade is a not-so-small miracle of independent filmmaking." – The Wall Street Journal

"An achingly honest film about some of the ghastliest years of adolescence. Funny, tender and endearing." – Newsday
