Sewing 101

(entering grades 6-12, adults)

Learn different sewing techniques and skills. Each week we will be focusing on a different topic. Sewing supplies will be provided. Feel free to bring your own supplies and equipment if desired.

July 6: Basic hand stitches (basting stitch, backstitch, whip stitch, etc.)

July 15: Basic machine stitches/ How to use a sewing machine

July 22: How to read a sewing pattern and choose fabric

July 29: Closures (Buttons, snaps, hook & eyes, etc.)

August 5: Hems (machine and hand sewing)

August 12: Embellishments (Darts, pleats, tucks, gathering, etc.)

Sewing machines and supplies will be provided but feel free to bring your own supplies and machines. 

Read the sewing machine waiver statement and give your consent in the question below. 

"I understand and freely and knowingly assume the potential risks involved with using a sewing machine. If there are any issues that will affect participation in this event or if a special accommodation needs to be made, I will contact the library at least one week prior to the event.

I do hereby waive, release and hold harmless the Somerset County Library System of NJ, its officers, sponsors, supervisors and representatives for any injury that may be suffered by me in the normal course of participation in this program and the activities incidental thereto, whether the result of negligence or any other cause."
