With over one hundred slides to look at, this lecture will be “a feast for your eyes”, including explanations that will be “a feast for your brain”, and even a little singing that will be “ a feast for your ears” (even if you can’t carry a tune).
Learn more about the artists themselves, and the story behind such works as:"Washington Crossing the Delaware", Gilbert Stuart's "Iconic George Washington", Paul Revere's "Engraving of the Boston Massacre".
Learn also about the John Trumbull's Paintings in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol Building:"The Declaration of Independence", "Surrender of General Burgoyne" (Saratoga), "Surrender of Lord Cornwallis" (Yorktown) and
"General George Washington Resigning His Commission".
Hear about the Charles Willson Peale Painting of "George Washington" that was attacked!
Remembering that artists are not only painters, and that works of art are not only paintings, we will also explore other art forms such as poems like "Paul Revere's Ride" and even music like "Yankee Doodle".
Learn more about the huge impact these and other works of the fine arts had in arousing the passions that shaped public opinion both during and after the war.
Oh, and you know who else makes an appearance in this lecture…Elvis Presley
