Learn about Elvis Presley's life and career in this lecture presented by Vinnie Bruno.
Elvis is recognized as the best-selling solo music artist of all time by Guinness World Records. Presley won three Grammy Awards, and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age thirty-six.
He is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century and is often referred to as the "King of Rock 'n Roll". We will travel with Elvis from his early days in Memphis and his trailblazing recordings with Sun Records, to his complete dominance of the music charts in the 50's. His 50's success led him to a successful 60's Hollywood film career and on to his acclaimed television comeback, which opened the door to triumphant tours and a seven-year sold out concert residency at the International Hotel in Las Vegas. Elvis has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame and still remains the best-selling solo artist of all time.
Presenter: Vinnie Bruno as a Beatles Scholar and storyteller, embraces the Beatles' legacy while presenting entertaining, interactive, and informative programs for both the casual listener and hard-core Beatles fans. As a 60's Rock Historian, his program list includes historic and musical overviews of over one hundred rock and roll musicians and groups, each of whom helped define the 50's, 60's and 70's by creating musical landscapes that captivated a generation and whose influence in popular culture still endures more than five decades later. Mr. Bruno retired as Director of First Year Programs at LaGuardia Community College (City University of New York). He holds an MPA from Baruch College and, as an adjunct professor for twenty five years, taught courses in numerous disciplines including Humanities, Business and Mathematics. He currently resides in both New Jersey and Arizona.
