Rosemary Kennedy attended exclusive schools, was presented as a debutante to the queen and king of England and traveled the world with her high-spirited sisters. Desperate to find a “cure” for their intellectually disabled daughter, the Kennedys resorted to often desperate and duplicitous arrangements to keep Rosemary out of the public view, especially as she became increasingly difficult and erratic in her early twenties. It was an experimental lobotomy gone terribly wrong that ultimately inspired her siblings to direct attention to the plight of the disabled, transforming the lives of millions.
Presenter: Kate Clifford Larson is a New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-selling author of critically acclaimed biographies, including: "Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter;" "Bound for the Promised Land: Harriet Tubman, Portrait of an American Hero" and "The Assassin's Accomplice: Mary Surratt and the Plot to Kill Abraham Lincoln." Her latest work, "Walk With Me: A Biography of Fannie Lou Hamer" tells the remarkable story of one of America's most important civil rights leaders of the 20th century. Praised for her research and insights as a biographer, Larson digs deep into her subject’s history, uncovering family roots, personal life, and recenters their stories in the context of their times for modern readers. An award-winning consultant for feature film scripts, documentaries, museum exhibits, and public history initiatives, Larson is frequently interviewed by national and international media outlets.
