SCLSNJ
Author of:"Submarine Warfare Along the New Jersey Shore" and "New Jersey: A Military History".
Mr. Bilby will speak on New Jersey’s role in World War 1.
The lecture will include the election of President Woodrow Wilson, the state’s governor, the massive increase in industrialization brought on by the struggle in Europe, German sabotage in the state, a reluctance to enter the conflict, which turned into fervid patriotism since the war was declared and the massive training and transit installations at Camp Dix and Camp Merritt.
The role of New Jersey soldiers in France and the German submarine raids along the shore will also be delved into. Mr. Bilby will tell also of the official end of the war for the United States – in New Jersey.
