A reception to celebrate the restoration of Somerville Library's treasured portrait of Dr. Mary Gaston, including a meet and greet with local dignitaries and a local history presentation by the staff.
Dr. Marge Sullivan, PhD will speak about the incredible life of Dr. Gaston (1855-1956). Guest speaker Dr. Kathleen Toomey, a medical oncologist at RWJ in Somerville, will speak about the evolving role of women in medicine. At the conclusion of the program, the winner of a Women's History themed bookmark design contest will be announced. Arrangements have been made for the design to be printed on bookmarks for local distribution.
Presented by the Somerville Historic Committee, in partnership with the Board of Trustees and Friends of the Library.
