Indonesia, home to a rich cultural and natural heritage, is notorious as the home to the super volcano, Krakatau. Mandy Apgar will explore the devastating effects of its eruption in 1883.
A volcano that blew itself out of existence with the loudest sound ever heard by mankind. Krakatau's eruption in 1883, its subsequent tsunami and the devastating after-effects on the people and environment of Indonesia helped establish volcanology as a science and place the volcano as among the most notorious of history. Questions remain as to its role in history as well as why the disaster achieved the scale it did and some answers are still being debated today.
