Few natural phenomena are as beautiful and mesmerizing as the Northern Lights. Astronomer Dr. William Gutsch, will explain what causes the Northern Lights and where and when to best see them.
In this colorful talk, astronomer and former, long time Chairman of the American Museum of Natural History-Hayden Planetarium, Dr. William Gutsch, will explain how activity on the sun triggers the Northern Lights, where and when to best see the Aurora and what photographic equipment and techniques are best for capturing them. He will also show striking still images and time lapse movies of these dazzling celestial displays from his many treks to the Arctic.
Adventures under the Northern Lights is part of Coffee Time Talks, an educational program series for adults to encourage lifelong learning. Programs run from 11 a.m. to noon, and attendees are encouraged to stay through 1 p.m. to socialize with fellow patrons and enjoy some refreshments.
