Presented by the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Somerset County. We’ll walk you through some tools and techniques to continue to enjoy home grown produce well after frosts settle in.

Just because the sun is setting earlier and temperatures are cooling, gardening season does not have to end! In this presentation, we’ll walk you through some tools and techniques to continue to enjoy home grown produce well after frosts settle in.

Learn how to select cold-hardy crops to harvest soon, veggies to overwinter for later, along with how to time your plantings perfectly. We’ll discuss methods to protect your garden from harsh winds and frost damage by creating low-cost tools and structures like row covers and cold frames. With these simple strategies, gardeners of all experience levels can unlock the full potential of their gardens.

As the Environmental Program Coordinator for Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Somerset County, Jessica Shick supports local home gardeners and natural resource advocates. She proudly oversees the Rutgers Master Gardeners and Environmental Stewards volunteer programs. Jessica is a Rutgers University alumna with a B.S. in Nutrition, and a background in floriculture and farmer’s market management. In her free time, you can find her hiking, cooking, or working on craft projects.
