In October 1779, Major John Graves Simcoe led his Queen’s Rangers into patriot territory with lofty goals of capturing high ranking officials and destroying significant material. The result fell short of this. Although the raid had a negligible impact on the outcome of the American Revolution, it produced a lasting impact on the development of Somerset County.
