Enjoy a live performance of songs from Armenia, Turkey, Syria, Greece, Persia and Israel.
John Vartan is a musical artist of uncommon skill who specializes in the performance of several different middle-eastern musical instruments, including the oud, kemenche, and kaval. His talent is also comprised of a wide repertoire of songs that he sings. He has a large collection of musical instruments he collected while traveling in the middle-east.
John Vartan received his doctorate from New York University in 1984. He retired in 2015 as a full professor at Kean University in Union, NJ, where he continues to teach as an adjunct professor in the profession of Recreation & Parks Administration & Management
John will be accompanied by Pete Boorujy who is a very talented dumbek player (the dumbek is an hour-glass shaped drum). Pete also plays the oud, in fact he owns eight of them, an exceptional collection of finely made instruments. The duo will perform together playing music, and singing songs from Armenia, Turkey, Syria, Greece, Persia, and Israel. They have been performing together for many ethnic events including banquets, wedding, picnics, and parties in the New York Metropolitan area.
