250 years ago in 1775 the first Provincial Congress of New Jersey assembled, offering an alternative deliberative body to the official General Assembly called by the Royal Governor. Frederick Frelinghuysen, father of Gen. Frelinghuysen whose historic home is now the Raritan Public Library, represented Somerset County and served Congress as an assistant secretary.
