Ukrainian Easter Eggs, called pysanky, are decorated eggs made specially during the period of Lent preceding Pascha (or Easter).
Pysanky, from the word “pysaty” which means “to write,” are made using the traditional wax-resist method and are done on blown out chicken, goose or ostrich eggs. This ancient method of decorating eggs stems from pre-Christian roots but has taken on Christian symbolism and meaning after the adoption of Christianity in Ukraine in 988.
On display for the month of April.
