Library Meeting RoomUkrainian Easter Eggs, called pysanky from the Ukrainian word “pysaty” meaning “to write”, are traditionally done during the Lenten Period preceding Easter (Pascha).

During the period of Lent preceding Pascha, or Easter, Ukrainians write pysanky, or decorate eggs, using ancient symbols. From the deep past, these patterns were thought to imbue the egg with magical powers and ward away evil spirits, and they later took on Christian meanings. During this workshop, participants will make their own pysanka using the traditional wax-resist method.
All materials will be provided.
