Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration of the history and culture of the U.S. Latinx and Hispanic communities. It spans from September 15 to October 15.

This program looks at Latinos--some born in the U.S., others from throughout the Americas--who have created important inventions, many of which we use in everyday life.

Presented by: Karen Juanita Carrillo is a Brooklyn, New York-based author and a frequent speaker on African American and Afro Latino history and politics. She is a staff reporter with the New York Amsterdam News where her news reporting widens the knowledge about Black communities in the Americas. Carrillo has garnered awards from the New York Association of Black Journalists, New California Media Awards, and the National Newspapers Publishers Association.
Carrillo is co-founder of the website www.Afropresencia.org, which she started to help promote the dissemination of information about people of African descent in the Americas. AfroPresencia is a United Nations-accredited NGO; one of its missions is to help organize grassroots groups that are working to provide aid to people of African descent. Carrillo regularly publishes news articles, some of which you can see here.
