Connect with local author Mally Becker, an Agatha Award-nominated mystery writer, for a discussion about her Revolutionary War Mystery series and a reading from her latest book, The Paris Mistress.
After twenty-five years as an attorney, Mally Becker threw off her navy blue suits, sensible shoes, and pearls to find out what life was like outside the world of law. Donning sweats and sneakers, she began writing crime fiction. Not just everyday murder mysteries, but historical crime fiction set in Morristown, New York City, Philadelphia, and Paris during our War for Independence.
In her talk, Mally will discuss the surprising things she learned about our country’s beginnings, from the New Jersey crime of traveling into NYC without government approval to the mysterious attempt to bribe Benjamin Franklin into helping the British. She’ll describe how she combined her love of crime fiction and history, along with the skills she acquired in her professional life, to depict the historical settings and plots of her Agatha Award-nominated Revolutionary War mystery series.
The most recent book in the series, The Paris Mistress, features Benjamin Franklin in France and was called, “[a]n enjoyable, well-paced mystery” by Kirkus Reviews.
