Our art space is featuring New Jersey artist Roberta C. Scott. Scott's photographs will be on display until January 31st, during regular library hours of operation.
Roberta C. Scott was born in Jersey City, NJ and has been photographing for over 35 years. During this time she has won several awards and has presented many one-woman shows in the United States. Ms. Scott has been published in Garden Magazine and was featured on Channel 8 Cable TV for her exhibit of nature photographs. Ms. Scott’s images are also a part of both private and permanent collections. Ms. Scott graduated from the University of Idaho with a B.A. in Theatre Arts. At that time, she also earned a Secondary Teaching Credential. For several years Ms. Scott taught high school Media & Communication, Film & Literature and directed school plays in California. While there she also took workshops at the University Extension, Berkeley, CA to enhance her own education in media and photography. Ms.Scott ultimately moved back to New Jersey where she completed a Masters program in Theatre Arts at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts. Ms. Scott continued to work full-time, teach photography workshops and exhibit her own work in the Tri-State area. She also conducted photography workshops for community based organizations and was an instructor for five years for the Becoming an Outdoors Woman Program sponsored by the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife. Ms. Scott’s body of work encompasses most aspects of photography from landscapes to still-life. Ms. Scott also received training in computer graphics as a means of seeking new ways to create compelling photo-based images. Currently Ms. Scott works part-time at the Fleetwood Museum of Art & Photographica, North Plainfield, NJ and is a member of the Center for Contemporary Art, Bedminster, NJ, The Nature Conservancy and New Jersey Audubon. Ms. Scott’s artistic credo is: “Beauty lies in your own backyard.”
